Permanent Exhibition

Unique in Italy and one of the most important museums of its kind in the world, the Museo Nazionale del Cinema is housed inside the Mole Antonelliana, the iconic landmark of the city of Turin. The permanent exhibition showcases the Museum’s extraordinarily rich collections through a spectacular and immersive display that spirals upwards across multiple levels.

The exhibition traces the history of cinema through posters, objects, photographs, film clips, sets and devices relating to the archaeology of cinema, allowing visitors to experience the magic and evolution of the seventh art.

Designed by François Confino, the exhibition combines scholarly rigour with striking scenography, exploring the mechanisms of fascination at the heart of cinematic representation. The history of the Museum is closely linked to Maria Adriana Prolo, the twentieth-century historian and collector whose role is also celebrated in a video installation devoted to the intertwined destinies of the two visionary figures who, in different eras, gave life to the Mole Antonelliana and the Museo Nazionale del Cinema: Alessandro Antonelli and Maria Adriana Prolo.

Multimedia content, interactive stations, QR codes and free Wi-Fi enrich the visitor experience, making it more engaging and accessible. The exhibition also embraces contemporary audiovisual languages, from virtual reality and video art to video games, confirming the Museum as a dynamic space for storytelling, discovery and experimentation.
