CONIGLIOVIOLA TEOREMA PASOLINI

The Museo Nazionale del Cinema commemorates Pier Paolo Pasolini, on the centenary of his birth, with the art project ConiglioViola Teorema Pasolini, created by the artistic duo ConiglioViola and hosted from 13 April to 4 September 2022 on the outer railings of the Mole Antonelliana. It is a tribute to Pasolini that at the same time seeks to reveal an original reading of his cinema, which still today offers new and unexpected interpretative keys.

The exhibition presents a reinterpretation of several iconic photographs taken on the set of Teorema (1968) — one of Pasolini’s strongest and most controversial films — by Angelo Frontoni (1929–2002), whose archive is preserved by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema and the Cineteca Nazionale.

Five large-format tableaux vivants, which, as ConiglioViola underline, “tell of the profound sacredness of Pasolini’s message, a search for God also through carnality and physicality, attempting to make the difficulty of human existence bearable, even by equipping it with a pair of wings. The use of classical painting technique makes this message even more powerful, with a highly graphic style that enhances both its beauty and its dramatic intensity”.
